I fell in love with portraiture when I was 18 and searching desperately for myself (like most angsty teenagers). Art generously gave me purpose, motivation, and added great beauty to my life. I think one of the greatest gifts and tributes you can pay someone is making a portrait of them. It expresses admiration, respect, and deeply honors them.

I started my artistic journey by making portraits of those who inspire me, striving to capture their essence and soul in my work.

I think of my father and favorite artist (who drew the pictured portrait of me), who has told me on my quest in striving for realism:

"Don't be a slave to the photo."

This is his fairly harsh way of telling me to keep my uniqueness and freedom in my work, and not put too much pressure on myself to make something exactly like reality. His words carry me through my life and into my other artistic endeavors.

In the more recent years, I've started to shoot film photos, study theatre, and write. My style of art carry into these forms as well, experimenting with how I can capture genuine moments in both real life, onstage, and in a script to create something exciting, unique, and soulful. Art is liberation and I'm exploring the balance of how adventure, bravery and realism, can coexist in all of my art forms.
